With an aim to improve environmental quality and achieve the goals of environmental management proposed by executives, STX Pan Ocean has introduced ISO 14001 environmental management system for all ships and implemented them firmly within the company. Furthermore, the company has extensively applied SHEQ(Safety, Health, Environment & Quality Management System) to the whole fleet, a regulatory standard devised by grafting ISM code as determined by IMO(International Maritime Organization) onto quality management system as enacted by ISO.
SHEQ is an integrated safety management system which lays its foundation on a variety of regulation and requirements: ISM code that was put forth by IMO to secure the protection of marine environment and ship safety; ISO 9001, a quality management system initiated by ISO; OHSAS 18001, an Occupation Health and Safety Assessment Series for health and safety management systems; and ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) Code. The SHEQ system basically originated from certification rules of Korea Registers of Shipping(KR, ISM Code) and Norway Registers of Shipping(DNV, ISO 9001).
This system is constantly scrutinized and maintained through internal/external review and is evaluated by the land/maritime safety quality committee.
